Elizabeth’s Bridal Shower in Patagonia, AZ

February 20, 2011

Elizabeth and Matt will be married on March 19, 2011 at Arizona Inn in Tucson, AZ but the wedding celebrations started a month early with Elizabeth’s bridal shower. Located an hour from town, the shower was held at Elizabeth’s Aunt’s rustic cabin in Patagonia. The old adobe brick home was the perfect setting to pull off a shower that was both rustic and adorable!!! The wrap around porch and picket fences added so much charm to the event. We hung tissue paper puffs from the huge trees, made fabric scalloped banners to put around the porch, cooked delicious food with a mini theme (more on that later), and enjoyed amazing cupcakes from Sprinkles!

The menu was simple and delicious! Elizabeth’s nickname is Bitty so we decided to make all of the food “mini.” We had 3 cheese mini quiches, mini bagels, mini muffins, mini yogurt parfaits with homemade granola, and mini pancake stacks. The food was a hit! (Thanks to for the mini quiche recipe.)

Brown & Stevens Wedding

January 2, 2011

Anna Marie and Nate were married on January 1st 2011 and Dots and Stripes was there to help their day go off without a hitch! Weather threatened to put a damper (or a freeze) on the outdoor wedding but with a few outdoor heaters we were able to pull it off. The outdoor fireplaces and candles set throughout the yard made the backyard a romantic backdrop for the ceremony and reception. The backyard houses an amazing outdoor kitchen and brick oven for pizza making. A buffet of toppings for guests to make their own personal pizzas was a huge hit with the family & friends.

A candy table was set up to fit the theme that the bride and groom came up with “Love is Sweet.” The guests enjoyed filling their goodie bags with delicious candy to take home from the wedding. While we are talking sweets I have to mention the AMAZING cupcakes that were served. Sweet Things Cupcake Shoppe located in the Foothills Mall on La Cholla supplied the fantastic cupcakes that were as delicious as they were cute!

The wedding was fun, unique, and sweet just like the new husband and wife!

Congratulations Anna Marie and Nate and Happy New Year!!!

Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays!!

Max’s 2nd Birthday Party

October 4, 2010

Max’s 2nd birthday was celebrated on Sunday, September 19th with all of his family and friends in attendance. We decked out his house in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, 3 of Max’s favorite things! We had a great time planning and executing this boyish birthday bash and Max LOVED being the center of attention!

Inspired by a red biplane that flies over our house almost daily, we chose to use the colors light blue and white (like the sky), and red for all the modes of transportation. A new Hobby of Kelsey’s, sewing, added another texture, fabric, to the mix. She made scalloped banners to look like clouds which were hung throughout the house with red wood planes flying through them. Red wood trains and cars acted as centerpieces for the tables and a huge red plane pinata made by Kelsey’s cousin, Megan Thompson, added another homemade touch to the party. The candy table was filled with red and blue candy and the cloud backdrop really set this candy table apart from anything we have ever done. ¬†Elizabeth has the artistic eye and set everything up so perfectly! We had a blast putting everything together and combining out hobbies and strengths to execute this party.

Technical difficulties have delayed the process of uploading and editing the photos but we hope to have them posted this week. Please stay tuned to see our favorite party yet!

Happy Anniversary Dots & Stripes

September 23, 2010

We started Dots and Stripes Events a year ago after planning and executing an adorable first birthday party for Max. We were immediately hooked to the research, list making, crafting, creativity, and time it forced us to spend together, so just days after Max’s party, Dots and Stripes was born.

We have been using this blog (inconsistently to say the least) as the website to our little business. As we have a year and couple events under our belts, we have decided that one change we would like to make is to our blog. First, we will be posting much more frequently. Second, we will be more personal. Elizabeth and I both have many hobbies including photography and sewing that we would like to share with our readers. Finally, we have a couple events coming up including a big wedding that we are planning! Elizabeth and Matt are getting married in March and we would like to share the next 6 months of wedding prep with you.

Stay tuned!
